Senora Lilia Graciela “Chela” Parra Zamora de Hernandez, known for her inspiring and generous uses of her God-given gifts to aid and better the lives of those around her passed away on August 11, 2017 at her home in Kilgore, TX. Lilia was a beloved wife, mother, sister, great-grandmother, and friend. The things she loved in life were Latin dancing, mariachi bands, eating chocolate, sewing, dressing up, making friends, enjoying life, being a kid at heart, and playing the piano.

Lilia was born in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico on June 11, 1936 to the late Adela Zamora de Parra and Genovevo Parra Zambrano. She was a member of the first graduating class of Centro Medico de Especialidades, Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico as a registered nurse. Lilia came to the U.S. in her early 20’s as a nurse at Providence Hospital, El Paso, TX and obtained her citizenship. Later in life she became an Avon Representative and obtained her cosmetology degree at the Pipo Academy of Hair Design, El Paso. She was an Avon Representative for 40+ years. She also enjoyed helping others through volunteer work at Providence Sierra Hospital, El Paso. She was the volunteer hairstylist for patients at that hospital. She also volunteered at the waiting room and gift shop at the Baylor Hospital, Grapevine for a total of a combined 17+ years. She loved her social life as well: “Bunco Babes” and “Grupo Alegria”, Keller; El Paso (Sacramento), Watauga, Keller, and Longview (Green St) Senior Centers; and “The Red Hats” Keller and Kilgore, as well as the water aerobics group of Parks Fitness Center, Kilgore.

Lilia leaves behind her husband of almost 56 years, Hector Anibal Hernandez, whom she wed on October 21, 1961. Also continuing to celebrate her life are her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She is survived by her three children Hector Raul Hernandez (Carla) of Warner Robins, Georgia, Gustavo Alonso Hernandez (Lisa) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Lilia Fabiola Hernandez Anderson (Tommy) of Kilgore, Texas. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren Matthew, Andrew, Ryan, Rachel, and Harrison. Three siblings and their respective spouses will also be missing their beloved sister: Raul Parra (OH), Elba Parra de Cordio (CA), and Mario Parra (TX). She will also be remembered by several nieces, nephews, and cousins as well. She was also loved by her step grandchildren Kaleb, Jacob, and Mikki-Anita; step great- grandchild Faith; and ex-daughter in-law Terri Hernandez.

Please join us in celebrating her life on Monday, August 14th with visitation starting at 5 pm and Rosary at 7 pm at Rader Funeral Home Kilgore, TX. Mass will be held the following morning at Christ the King Catholic Church at 11 am Kilgore, corner of Broadway and Laird, Kilgore. Flowers can be sent to Rader Funeral Home, 401 N.
