Services for Carl Jay Sheldon, 88, of Kilgore will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Rader (Kilgore) Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Paul Phillips and David Hampton officiating. Burial will follow at Danville Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 8, between 6:00 8:00 pm at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.

Carl slipped quietly into the arms of Jesus early Monday morning Feb. 4 with his wife and his daughters and sons-in-law by his side. He was a godly man who led his family by example more than words. His love for his wife, Barbara, was evident at all times. They maintained the love they had as newlyweds throughout their 68 year marriage. They always sat side by side holding hands even until the end. Goodbye kisses weren't just one but more like three or four. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He made each one feel special.

In his later years, he spent part of most days on his patio reading his Bible & singing solo from an old Baptist hymnal. He kept a log of the ones he sang. He mowed the church yard until just a few months ago. He loved his church, Friendship Baptist in Kilgore.

He served his country in the Korean War. He had a strong work ethic and even during the last few hours of his life he encouraged his great-grandsons to work hard at whatever they do.

Carl was born June 5, 1930 in Sherrill, Arkansas to Leroy and Mae Sheldon. He was one of eight boys and one girl. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Obe, Gene, Richard, Robert, and John.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; daughters, Brenda and Rodney Biggs of Kilgore and Karleen and Mike Reeves of Longview; son, Clayton of Kilgore; sister, Ellen Jackson of Washington; brothers, James Sheldon of Kilgore and Hugh Sheldon of Washington; grandchildren, Kellie & Shawn Barker, Tracie and Montana Wallace, Seth and Patience Reeves, Amy and Chris Hopkins, Brad and Ashton Reeves and Chad Mulvihill; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Jackson Barker, Caden and Colten Wallace, Jessie, Chase, Jett, and Jagger Reeves, Judd, Nate, and Case Hopkins, Ava and Elliot Reeves and many nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends.

Memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1030, Kilgore TX 75663.
