Wanda Beth Smallwood, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, departed this life peacefully on August 27, 2024, in her hometown of Kilgore, Texas. Born on August 15, 1937, she filled the world with her indomitable spirit and unwavering love for her family. The daughter of loving parents and sister to several siblings, Wanda carried the maiden name Cagle with pride throughout her life.

Wanda's educational journey began at Sabine High School, where she laid the foundation for a lifetime of accomplishment. Her career as a computer operator at Bendix spanned an impressive 14 years, reflecting not only her technical prowess but also her commitment to diligence and excellence in every task she undertook.

The heart of Wanda's existence revolved around her family. She was a dedicated matriarch who relished in the joys of camping and traveling with her beloved husband, the late Billy John Smallwood. Together, they explored the beauty of the open road in their motorhome, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime. As a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Kilgore, she built strong community ties, enriching the lives of those around her with her warmth and compassion.

Wanda fought valiantly against cancer for nine years, demonstrating a tenacity that inspired all who knew her. Her battle was a testament to her strength and resilience, characteristics that endeared her to both family and friends alike. Those memories of her courage will forever be cherished, a lasting legacy that embodies her spirit.

She leaves behind a loving family who will carry forth her memory: her sons, Billy John Smallwood II and wife Elaine, and Ronnie Ben Smallwood and wife Lorrie; her daughter Kay Jacobson and husband Ken; and a host of grandchildren, including Michael Noll (Michelle), Chad Smallwood (Mary), Jennifer Beth Williams (Billy), Billy John Smallwood III (Jessica), Julie Mathis (Andy), and Adam Smallwood (Megan). Wanda also took immense pride in her great-grandchildren, who filled her heart with joy: Emma, Jack, Charlie, Carson, Caden, Jacob, Jamie, Elizabeth, Jewellee, Billy, Christina, Ariel, and Marley. Furthermore, she was blessed with great-great-grandchildren Zoey, Adeline, Axel, Marcelus, Evelyn, Xander, Carter, Rosie, and Ashlynn.

Wanda reunites with those who preceded her in death: her husband, Billy John Smallwood; her parents; and her siblings, Peggy Ann Jacobs, Jean Council, Betty Harrod, Jerry Cagle, Dale Cagle, and Ben Cagle, Jr., along with her great grandson, Brandon Lee.

As we reflect upon the life of Wanda Beth Smallwood, let us remember a woman of incredible strength, unwavering love, and profound grace. Her legacy will continue to inspire her family and all whose lives she touched, weaving a tapestry of treasured memories that will linger in our hearts forever. Wanda will be lovingly laid to rest in a private ceremony at Danville Cemetery.
