Wanda Sherron Gregory, born Wanda Sherron Conley, passed away on November 5, 2026, in Longview, Texas. She was born on September 24, 1949, in Houston, Texas, and lived a life marked by faith, devotion, generosity, and deep love for her family and church.
Sherron was a woman of God whose service shaped much of her life. For 40 years, she and her husband served as Associate Pastors at New Horizon Church of God. She also taught Sunday school for 40 years, and served as church clerk, faithfully pouring her heart into the lives of others. Her love for people was evident in her ministries, including a food outreach program and a game day that brought fellowship and joy to many. Her proudest accomplishment was her service to God and to her church, a calling she embraced with all her heart.
Her determination was also seen in her education. Later in life, she returned to school and graduated from Kilgore College in 1993 with an Associate’s Degree in Business at the age of 44, an achievement that reflected her perseverance and strength. In her working life, Sherron served as Office Manager at Water Works for the City of Longview until her retirement in 2014. She also worked as an Administrative Assistant at Learning Foundations School and for Attorney Jack H. Welge. Prior to receiving her degree, she served others alongside dear friends/owners at Nellie's Deli. Wherever she worked, Sherron made a lasting impression. She had a nurturing spirit and stepped naturally into a motherly role with her younger coworkers, taking them under her wing with care and kindness.
Sherron will be remembered as hospitable, giving, determined, and beautiful inside and out. She was an exceptional and Godly wife and mother who made everyone feel welcome. She loved to play Rummikub and other games, and it never seemed to matter what time of day or night; she was always ready for fun, laughter, and time together.
One of the sweetest stories of Sherron's life was the beginning of her lifelong love with Leon. At 13, she visited a church where Leon’s sisters saw her and went home after the Sunday morning service to tell him that a beautiful young lady had been there and would be back that evening. Hoping to meet her, Leon went to church that night. After the evening service, they went out for a Coke, dated for a year, and were married on August 4, 1964, just a month before Sherron turned 15. Their marriage spanned 62 years and was blessed with four children, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a lifetime of love.
Sherron is survived by her beloved husband, Leon Gregory. She also leaves behind her daughters, Rebecca Henley and Melissa Edney, and her husband, David Edney. Her memory will be treasured by her grandchildren, Bailie Gregory, Brancen Gregory, Britton Gregory, Briley Gregory, Logan DeYoung, Hunter Leshea Arnold and her husband Blake, Hannah Cox and her husband C.J., and Caleb Edney and his wife Brittany. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Carol Conley; her brother-in-law, Chuck Simmons; her son-in-law, John DeYoung; her daughter-in-law, Margo Gregory; and an extended family she loved dearly. Each of them carries forward the warmth, faith, and love that Sherron so freely gave.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest (Jack) Conley; her mother, Lois Chancey Conley; her brother, Leon Conley; her sister, Linda Simmons; her son, Eugene Gregory; her daughter, Kimberly DeYoung; and her grandson, Connor DeYoung. Their memories remained part of her life and heart, and now she rests with those who went before her.
Visitation for Sherron will be held on November 9, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home, 401 N Martin St in Kilgore. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Danville Cemetery.
Wanda Sherron Gregory leaves behind a legacy of steadfast faith, loving service, and a home and heart that welcomed everyone. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
