Obituary

Stephen Glenn Grimes, of Kilgore, TX, peacefully entered eternal rest on October 11, 2026, in Shreveport, LA, while under hospice care after a courageous four-and-a-half-year battle with Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. He was 58 years old.

The love story of Stephen and his beloved wife, Angie Grimes, began forty years ago as high school sweethearts. Together, they shared 38 beautiful years of marriage built on unwavering devotion, friendship, and love. To his family, he was affectionately known as "Pops"—a name that carried all the warmth, love, and dedication he poured into his household.

A proud patriot, Stephen honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, including his service during Operation Desert Storm. The values of duty, discipline, and loyalty he learned in the Marines carried through every aspect of his life. For nearly 25 years, he worked shift work at Eastman Chemical Company, where he was respected as an exceptionally hard worker and a great provider for his family. He was a man who truly never sat down, finding joy in productivity and staying active even on his days off.

Despite his demanding work schedule, Pops always made his family his number one priority. A wonderful, devoted husband and father, the only times he ever missed a game, meet, or event for his children were when his night shifts kept him away. His protective nature and profound love were evident in everything he did; when his daughter Macy worked at a gym in Longview, he would selflessly wake up at 4:30 in the morning just to ensure she made it safely inside. He also poured his whole heart into supporting Colby, spending countless hours practicing pitching and batting with him, and watching videos from his games for hours with so much intensity and pride that you would have thought Colby was playing in the Major Leagues. His legacy of putting family first lives on through his children and his four cherished grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life and loved their Pops dearly.

An avid athlete and outdoor enthusiast, Stephen loved working out, swimming, and bike riding, proudly completing three sprint triathlons. He also possessed a quiet, thoughtful side, enjoying hours reading books, listening to music, and taking well-deserved vacations at the beach surrounded by those he loved most.

His home was always filled with movement and laughter. Some of his family's most treasured memories are of him playing pool volleyball. He loved playing with his kids and family, bringing his signature, loving competitiveness to every game—resolute that no one was allowed out of the pool until his team emerged victorious. He was also the ultimate family prankster, constantly finding ways to playfully scare his loved ones every chance he got, all in the name of fun.

While the last two years of his illness required him to live away from home, the bond of love and the fervent prayers of his family never wavered. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Harmony House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Shreveport, LA, for taking such exceptional care of Stephen over the past five months, and to Bristol Hospice of Shreveport for their incredible care and support during his final days. Through their dedication, his journey culminated in a beautiful, profound peace.

He is survived by his loving wife, Angie Grimes; his mother, Donna Cooley; his two children, Macy Bustin and her husband Ryan of Richardson, TX, and Colby Grimes and his wife Taylor of Whitehouse, TX; and his sister, Tonya Cox and her husband Randy of Liberty City, TX. He is also survived by his four adored grandchildren, Walker Bustin, McKinley Bustin, Lyndon Grimes, and Kennedy Grimes, alongside numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, a host of extended family, military brothers, and close friends.

Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Cooley, of Kilgore, TX, and his sister, Dawn Poe, of Kilgore, TX.

A memorial visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, TX. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. A private memorial service for the family will be scheduled for a later date.
