Shelly Ann Gribble, born May 7, 1971, in Abilene, Texas, passed away surrounded by the love and legacy of a life devoted to faith, service and people. Shelly’s life reflected her deep commitment to Christ, education, and nurturing others wherever she was called.
Shelly was married to her beloved husband Michael Gribble of Kilgore, Texas, on June 7, 2014. Together they shared a life grounded in faith and service. She was a devoted mother to her daughters: Delayna Arteaga and Jairo of Lindale, Texas; Halley Foster and husband Robert of Kilgore, Texas; and Hannah Gribble of Shreveport, Louisiana. Shelly delighted in her role as “Grammy” to her cherished grandchildren, Riot Rose Foster and Mateo Arteaga, who brought her immeasurable joy.
She is survived by her brother, John Webb Jr. Shelly was preceded in death by her parents John Webb Sr. and Shirley Webb, and her brother Jay Webb.
Shelly’s passion for education and ministry shaped every chapter of her life. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1989 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication with an emphasis in Counseling and Guidance from Texas A&M University- Commerce in 1994. She later completed a Master of Divinity in Christian Education with an emphasis in Campus Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1997, and pursued graduate-level coursework in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Reading at Dallas Baptist University.
Her professional life reflected her calling to serve students and communities across the nation and around the world. Shelly devoted decades to Baptist Student Ministries, serving leadership roles in Washington, Mississippi, Texas and Massachusetts, including directing ministries at Kilgore College and Lamar University. Her work took her overseas as a missionary with the International Mission Board in Tokyo, Japan, where she taught English, the Bible, coordinated missions teams, and built meaningful cross-cultural relationships. She continued this international focus through ministry with students at MIT and through hosting and mentoring students from Japan.
In later years, Shelly continued serving through higher education, working as an academic advisor, student success coach, COVID Response Coordinator, and graduate academic advisor at institutions like LeTourneau University, Kilgore College, and the University of Texas at Tyler. In every role, she was known for her compassion, wisdom, organization, and tireless advocacy for students’ success.
Shelly was a faithful and devoted member of Longview Missionary Baptist Church, where she consistently served the Lord in humility and joy. Her life was marked by a servant’s heart, a love for learning. And a deep belief in the potential of every person she encountered.
Shelly Ann Gribble leaves behind a legacy of faith, love and service that will continue to bear fruit through her family, her friends, her students, and the countless lives she touched across generations and continents. She will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered.
