Shelia Kay Murphy

Sheila Kay Murphy, passed away on September 28, 2026, in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 66. She was born on July 12, 1960, in Lawton, Oklahoma to the late Arie Junior Prettyman and Jean Patricia Kellison Prettyman.

Sheila will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker whose family was at the center of her life. She took great pride in caring for those she loved, always placing their needs before her own. She cherished time spent with family and friends, and her steady love and devotion shaped the lives of those around her.

For more than 15 years, Sheila worked as a CNA in the healthcare industry, serving others with compassion and dedication. Her caring nature extended beyond her work and into every part of her life. She also found joy in the everyday comforts of home and the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. She loved cooking and baking, and she enjoyed feeding and watching her squirrels and birds, gardening, and shopping.

Above all, Sheila’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Ronnie Murphy. She also leaves behind her sons, Junior Murphy and his wife April, and Justin Murphy and his wife Morgan; her stepdaughter, Jessica Vanderwater and her husband Lloyd; her brother, Patrick Prettyman; her sisters, Sharla Flores and Lisa Prettyman; and her half-brother, Steve Patris. She was also a proud grandmother to Trevor Still, JoJo Still, Addison Murphy, and Carly McEntire, and a beloved great-grandmother to Murphy Still, Rosa Lee Ponder, and Conrad Ponder as well as many other loving family and friends. Each of them was part of the family she treasured so deeply, and her love for them will remain a lasting gift.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harvey Prettyman and Mike Prettyman, and by her sisters, Becky King, Pam Vanpel, and Sharron Calahan.

A Celebration of Life for Sheila Kay Murphy will be held on October 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel, in Kilgore.

Sheila’s life was one of care, loyalty, and deep love for her family. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
