Samuel Charles Lasley, age 64, passed away on July 13, 2025. He was born on March 28, 1961, in Independence, Iowa, and lived a life marked by service, hard work, and quiet devotion to his family, home, and country.
At the age of 17, Samuel enlisted in the United States Navy on February 20, 1979, and served honorably as a Bupersman. He was discharged on June 23, 1980, having served his country with pride and dedication.
After his military service, Samuel worked for BJ’s Trucking Company as both a mechanic and truck driver for eight years. His career took him from Riverton, Wyoming, to Marshall, Texas, before he eventually made his home in Kilgore, Texas, where he resided until his passing.
Samuel found peace and joy in the outdoors; he loved to hunt, fish, and tend to his garden. He was always working around his home, making sure it was cared for and beautiful. He was known for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Ivan Lasley; his mother, Esther Pearl (Rodgers) Lasley; and two sons, Brandon Lasley and Hubert Baker.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ann Baker; his children: Alton Loyd Baker, Ricky Gene Baker, Kathy Ann (Baker) Cline, Kayla Fay (Ridge) Griffin, Jayden Nichole Ridge, Alizibeth Rose Ridge, and Faith Ann Ridge. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many dear friends who will miss him deeply.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 17, from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 18, at 10:00 AM. at Kilgore Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to a veterans’ organization or outdoor conservation group in Samuel’s honor.
Samuel Charles Lasley will be remembered for his faithful service, his love of the land, and the deep care he gave to his family, friends, and home.
