Richard Paul Shafer, age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November, 24, 2024, at Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Ennis, Texas, with family by his bedside. He was born on July 29, 1943, in Springhill, Louisiana, to John "Red" and Edith Shafer.
Raised in Danville, Texas, with his brothers and the Danville Boys. He graduated from Kilgore High School in 1961 and earned an associate degree in Drafting from Kilgore College in 1969. In 1970, Richard began his career at Hughes Tool Company in Houston and married Judy Lynn Bean Shafer on January 2, 1971. The couple resided in Friendswood, Texas, until 1978 when they moved to Corsicana, Texas, where they lived out their years and raised two daughters. Richard retired from GAF Roofing Company after more than 20 years of dedicated service as a draftsman.
Richard was known for his storytelling, often sharing tales filled with dates and moments that brought joy to those around him. He enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, and camping with family, instilling a love for these hobbies in his daughters. His warmth was reflected in his laughter, and he had a knack for singing songs that perfectly matched any occasion, always paired with a smile. He is survived by his two daughters, Danielle Denbow and her husband Jimi Denbow of Corsicana, Texas, and Allison Shafer of Grand Junction, Colorado. He also leaves behind his granddaughters Kelsey Lee and Mallory Lee, both of Corsicana, Texas; grandsons Tyler and Austin Denbow of Corsicana, Texas; and his one and only great-grandson Ezra Howard. Richard is additionally survived by his brothers John Shafer of Kilgore, Texas, Cris Shafer and his wife Trina of Kilgore, Texas, and Aladdin Shafer and his wife Susan of Kilgore, Texas, along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel. Richard will be laid to rest at Danville Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kilgore High School or Mildred High School Bass Clubs in honor of Richard’s favorite pastime. Richard Paul Shafer will be remembered for his love, laughter, and the cherished memories he created with family and friends.
