Patty Martin passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, in Longview, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on March 9, 1953, in Omaha, Nebraska, Patty was known for her strength, honesty, and deep care for others. She worked in a variety of administrative roles over the years and retired from Cleveland Steel in 2020. But her life wasn’t defined by her job, it was shaped by her faith, her family, and her willingness to show up for people when they needed her most.
She was an active member of Crosspointe Fellowship Church, where she faithfully served many teams. One of her favorites was serving on the FIT Team, greeting everyone at the door with a warm smile and a kind word. She was also well known for her faithful prayers for others.
Patty’s red hair mirrored her spirit; strong, passionate, and full of life. She loved fiercely, with a heart wide open to family, friends, and even strangers who quickly became dear. She loved spending time with family and friends, whether playing cards, traveling, swimming, or cheering on the Green Bay Packers.
Decorating for Christmas was one of Patty’s favorite activities, much to the chagrin of those “voluntold” to assist. Hours seemed to morph into days as she methodically and painfully reminded all her “helpers” of the correct location of every little decoration and ornament. The home was eventually ready to present as a winter wonderland, full of joy and love. Although there was much "protesting and grumbling”, the children showed up every year to participate and have the chance to gather as a family and celebrate the birth of Christ.
She was a faithful wife to Bob Martin, a loving and supportive mother to Chris (Sarah) Phillips, Kim (Tracy) Eastman, Kevin (Sheryl) Phillips, and Nick (Tammie) Martin, and the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her legacy of faith, love, and perseverance lives on in each of them.
She is also survived by her sisters, Pennye Rose and Pam Doss, who were lifelong sources of strength, laughter, and connection. Patty’s family meant everything to her, and her deep bonds with them were a constant in her life.
She is now reunited with her parents, Bobbie Gould Coughlin and Patrick J. Coughlin, and we take comfort in knowing she is at peace with her Savior.
Patty’s faith was the foundation of her life. She didn’t need recognition; she just lived it out, day by day. She believed in prayer, in God’s promises, and in showing up for people when they needed love and truth.
A visitation will be held at Crosspointe Church in Kilgore, Texas, on Thursday, June 12th, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 AM, followed by her funeral service at the same location at 11:00 AM. The family invites all whose lives she touched to come and pay tribute to a remarkable woman who lived a life rich in love and unwavering faith.
