Matthew Cole Urban, born February 26, 1999, in Port Arthur, Texas and passed away on September 14, 2026, in Kilgore.
Matthew will be remembered as a friend to everyone, a hardworking man, and someone who was always willing to help those in need and stand up for anyone being mistreated. He loved spending time with family and friends, and his faith was an important part of his life, as he loved the Lord. Matthew also loved music and was an accomplished songwriter and rapper, expressing himself through his creativity and talent. He enjoyed spending time outdoors with family and friends; much of this time was spent fishing.
Matthew had a very special bond with his grandparents; his "PaPa Bill" was Matthew's rock and the constant in his life. Bill was his mentor providing advice, wisdom and teaching Matthew life skills. His grandmother Marie was always available for evening walks and talks.
Among the greatest joys of Matthew’s life was his daughter, Alyssa Grace, who was his pride and joy. The love he had for her was central to his life and will remain a treasured part of his memory.
He is survived by his mother, Jannice Urban; his daughter Alyssa Urban; and his father, Christopher Best. He is also survived by his sister, Ashlee Chenault, and his brother, Michael Urban. Matthew’s family circle also includes his grandparents, Bill and Marie Cooper, and his great-grandmother, Peggy Planas. He is further survived by his uncle Richard Urban and wife Blanca, and Blanca's son Alvie; and by his aunt Laura Oglesbee and husband Tad, and Laura's son Ness as well as Tad's children; as well as his very good friend Austin Barton. Each of them carries forward memories of Matthew’s kindness, loyalty, and love.
Matthew was preceded in death by his beloved aunt Kathy, grandfather Gabriel Planas, grandmother Alice Sawyer, and best friend Jordan Young, whose memories remained meaningful in his life.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation with the family on September 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home, in Kilgore.
A memorial service celebrating Matthew will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Forest Hill Baptist Church at 315 Forest Hill Church Rd. in Longview.
Matthew Cole Urban will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His warmth, compassion, strength of character, and love for his family, friends, music, and faith will be remembered always.
