Marianne Elizabeth AuBuchon passed away peacefully from natural causes on January 31, 2026. She was surrounded by family as she rejoined the love of her life – her husband James “Jim” Francis AuBuchon, Sr. – who precedes her in death.
Marianne leaves behind a strong family who carries forward her passion, determination and values: son, Jim AuBuchon, Jr. and his wife Sharon AuBuchon; daughter, Jenise Chipman and her husband Zac Chipman; daughter, Michelle Wiley and her husband Kendall Wiley; daughter, Cheryl Burge and her husband Steve Burge; and son, Michael AuBuchon and his husband Shane Proch-Wilson.
She was known as “Granny” to her treasured grandchildren: Brian AuBuchon, Kyle AuBuchon, Lexi Owen, Lane Chipman, Matt Shutt, Megan Wiley, Katie Wiley, Lauren Mason, Sean Burge, Henry AuBuchon-Wilson, Max AuBuchon-Wilson, and Charlie AuBuchon-Wilson; and to her great-grandchildren: Julianne AuBuchon, James AuBuchon, Alice AuBuchon, Aubreigh Wiley, Isaac Shutt, Eli Shutt, Audrey Shutt, and Gemma Mason. Her family was her life’s work and her proudest accomplishment.
Born Marianne Elizabeth Burger on March 28, 1941, to Robert and Agnes Burger of Brooklyn, New York, Marianne was the oldest of seven children. She is survived by three siblings (Robert Burger, Agnes Kane, and Jeanne Ridpath) and is preceded in death by three siblings (Margaret Sirois, James Burger, and John Burger). Marianne met Jim, her future husband, while both were attending Southeast Missouri State University (where Marianne began her education). Together, Jim and Marianne built a life and family defined by hard work, faith, and perseverance.
Education was not just Marianne’s career — it was her calling. Marianne earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Special Education from the University of Texas at Tyler. She dedicated her professional life to helping students who needed extra support, believing that every child could learn and succeed with the right guidance. A lifelong educator, she retired from Kilgore Independent School District, where she most recently taught remedial reading at Kilgore High School.
Marianne approached life with passion and resolve. She faced challenges head-on and taught her family the value of persistence, responsibility, and standing strong through difficult times. She loved to read and never stopped learning, but her greatest joy was time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren — encouraging them, supporting them, and taking pride in the people they became.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, Texas. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore with Dr. Bill Holda officiating.
