Obituary

Marcella (Marcy) Ann Byrum Brown, a devoted wife, mother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, in Longview, Texas. Born on July 27, 1945, in Lequire, Oklahoma, she was a guiding light to all who knew her. A proud graduate of Sabine High School in 1963, Marcy dedicated her life not just to work, but primarily to her family and her faith.

She was a woman of profound convictions and unwavering faith, known affectionately as a preacher's wife as she and her husband, Gary Brown, served many congregations throughout his ministry. The couple enjoyed the journeys of service together, imbued with purpose while instilling love and compassion in their family. Marcy was passionate about being a servant of God, fondly involved in teaching children at church, playing the piano, and singing, as well as expressing her creativity through cooking, hosting and crocheting.

Throughout her life, Marcy displayed a strong love for travel. Alongside Gary, they were blessed to explore various parts of the country while he drove a truck for several years. Together, they embraced every opportunity for adventure and enrichment.

Marcy's loving nature was evident in her interactions with family and friends. She is survived by her children, LeAnn and her husband Greg McDaniel of Forney and Scott and his wife Gayla Brown of Kilgore. She took immense pride in her grandchildren, Emily Lewis (and her husband Dan’l), Adam McDaniel, Nykia Brown, Cale Brown, and Anslee Brown, and her great-grandchildren, Eloise Lewis and Loxley Brown. Marcy also shared a close relationship with her sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Ron Strait of Longview, and had a special place for her nephews, Mark Strait (and his wife Alaina) and Marty Strait (and his wife Jana), all of Longview, and her sister-in-law, Vicky Allen (and her husband Gary) of Lindale and Terrie McClenny Sumrall (and husband Samuel) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her accomplishments in family life, Marcy and Gary took great pride in their mission work, impacting lives in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico, and beyond.

She is preceded in death by her parents, H.B. and Louise Floyd Byrum, and her sister-in-law, Dianne McClenny and her nephew Amos McClenny. Marcy will be deeply missed by her family and community, but her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home, 401 North Martin St, Kilgore, TX, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The funeral service will take place the following day, Monday, January 12, 2026, at Rader Funeral Home, beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Kilgore Memorial Gardens. All are welcome to celebrate and honor the life of this remarkable woman.

Memorials may be made in Marcy's memory to the Pleasant Hills Children's Home, P.O. Box 1177, Fairfield, TX 75840
