Lowell Keith "L.K." Martin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated veteran, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026. Born on December 20, 1944, L.K. lived a life marked by service, laughter, and an enduring love for his family and community.
L.K. was a proud graduate of Kilgore High School, class of 1963. He furthered his education at Kilgore College and ultimately earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas in Tyler. His dedication to learning complemented a lifelong commitment to hard work and service.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, L.K. served with honor through several tours in Vietnam. His patriotism and commitment to his fellow servicemen remained a defining part of his identity throughout his life. A member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars post #4002 (V.F.W.), Disabled American Veterans, and was a Lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans of America post #987 in Longview. L.K. was deeply proud of his military service and the bonds it created.
In his professional life, L.K. devoted 30 years to Lone Star Steel, where he worked from 1966 until his retirement in 1996. His work ethic and dedication earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and community alike.
Music was a significant passion for L.K., who loved playing with his band "Dynamic Duo." Together, they brought joy to countless local venues, including the famed Reo Palm Isle in Longview. His love of music was as infectious as his warm smile and hearty laugh. Known for his fondness for practical jokes, he filled the lives of those around him with humor and lightheartedness.
L.K. was a devoted family man, cherished as a great dad who loved his family deeply. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Martin of Gilmer; his children, Ryan Martin and wife Paula of Diana, Alan Martin of Longview, Jessica Meredith and husband Eric of Whitehouse and, Danny Hudson of Gilmer; and his grandchildren, Steven Martin and Kynli Martin of Diana, as well as Alexis Meredith and Caylin Meredith of Whitehouse. He is also survived by his sister, Sherry Villyard of Tyler, several nieces and nephews, and many other loving family members and friends who will continue to honor his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Eva Martin, and sisters Claudann Martin, Glora Gleixner, Jackie Friddle, and infant baby girl Lacy Martin.
Visitation for Lowell Keith Martin will be held on May 29, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Rader Funeral Home, located at 401 N Martin St, Kilgore, TX 75662. This will be followed by a Memorial Service starting at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
L.K.'s legacy is one of laughter, loyalty, and love—a true testament to a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
