Linda Jo Smithey-Hughes (78) of Longview, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21st, 2026. Linda was born October 14th, 1947, in Corsicana, Texas to James and Johnnie Smithey of Frost, Texas.

Linda will be remembered for her unyielding devotion to the family and friends she loved. She held a particular love for holidays, birthdays, and intergenerational celebrations held at her home with a full house of children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving family. Her husband, Ronald Lee Hughes with whom she was married for fifty-nine years, her children, Wendy Dawn Smith of Gulf Breeze, Florida, Shannon Leigh Hughes of Grand Prairie, Texas, Amy Nicole Taliaferro and her husband Robert Edward Taliaferro of Henderson, Texas, Ronald Blake Hughes and his wife Emily Hughes of Henderson, Texas, and youngest, Brutus Alexander Hughes and spouse Sam Arden Hughes of Aurora, Colorado. She is additionally survived by her grandchildren Nik Smith and spouse Rachel Goodman, Andrew Weinberg, Jonathan Fore, Coleman Taliaferro, Hunter Taliaferro, Sara Taliaferro, Savannah Maynard, Jonathan Gough, Benjamin Gough, and Nineveh Hughes.

Linda was preceded in death by her father and mother, James and Johnnie Smithey, her two brothers Danny and Mike Smithey, and her sister-in-law, Karlene Cobb.

Linda’s memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26th, 2026, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore.
