Linda Kay Cundiff

December 2, 1943 — April 9, 2026

Kilgore, Texas

Linda Kay Brashears Cundiff, a devoted Christian woman, beloved wife, treasured aunt, and faithful friend, entered her heavenly home on April 9, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born on December 2, 1943, in Kilgore, Texas, a place that would always hold her heart.

Linda attended Kilgore public schools and graduated from Kilgore High School in 1961. She continued her education at Kilgore College before earning her bachelor’s degree in education from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Teaching was not just her profession — it was her calling. She poured her heart into her students, believing deeply in the power of education and the God‑given potential within every child.

In 1967, Linda married the love of her life, Sanford “Sandy” Cundiff, Jr. Their marriage of 58 years was a testament to devotion, partnership, and unwavering faith. Together they built a life rooted in love, hard work, and trust in the Lord.

Linda and Sandy moved to Lakeland, Florida, where she taught in the Florida school system for many years. Her dedication and excellence in the classroom were recognized when she received the Teacher of the Year Award at Cleveland Court Elementary School in 1983. After returning to Kilgore in 1990, she continued her teaching career in Overton, Texas, where she again made a lasting impact. In 2011, graduating seniors honored her with the distinction of being the teacher who had most profoundly influenced students over the years — a recognition that touched her deeply. Even after retiring, Linda continued to substitute teach, unable to resist the joy of being in the classroom.

Outside of teaching, Linda found great joy in the simple, beautiful rhythms of ranch life. She loved living on the family’s T‑8 Ranch just outside Kilgore, where she cared for her animals with tenderness and delight. Every cow and bull had a name, and her chickens were tended to daily with affection. Her “chores” were never a burden — they were part of the life she loved, a life filled with God’s creation and the peace of the outdoors.

Linda’s faith was the foundation of her life. She lived with a servant’s heart, a gentle spirit, and a steadfast love for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Conway Brashears and Rubye Louise Williams Brashears, and by her sister Connie Rae Brashears Douty. She is survived by her sister Janie Lou Brashears Kimball Sweeney, along with many nieces and nephews whom she cherished deeply and who will forever remember her kindness, encouragement, and unconditional love.

Linda’s legacy is one of faith, compassion, and quiet strength. She touched countless lives — in her classroom, in her family, and in her community. Though she will be deeply missed, we rejoice in knowing she is now in the presence of her Savior, where her joy is complete and her rest is eternal.

Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her influence will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.

Graveside services will be Monday, April 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Kilgore Cemetery with Rev. Ken Davis officiating. Family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday afternoon at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
