Linda Lou Compton, born on January 9, 1940, in Lecompte, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, in Longview. Her life, marked by unwavering faith, devotion to family, and a legacy of service, will be lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
Linda graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport, Louisiana, and later pursued further studies by attending Business School. Driven by a strong work ethic, she dedicated herself to her career as a dispatcher for AT&T and then with the Longview Police Department where she retired, gaining the respect and fondness of colleagues through her professionalism and diligence.
Her faith was central throughout her life. As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Linda found purpose and strength in her spiritual community. Her steadfast dedication to God was reflected in her everyday actions and the care she extended to others.
Linda’s family was the heart of her world. Her loving husband, Harold Weyman Compton, Sr., was her companion through life’s journeys. Together, they raised a devoted son, Weyman Compton, Jr., and shared in the joys brought by their daughter-in-law, Debbie. She cherished her granddaughter, Laura Leigh Jackson, and her grandson, Brandon Compton. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Jedidiah Compton, Keaton Garcia, Kaiden Compton, Brady Garcia, Macy Garcia, and Maddox Compton, each one a testament to the love and warmth she shared across generations.
Linda’s bonds extended into her extended family as well. She is survived by her beloved sister, Gwen Solly, and her brother-in-law, Lynn, as well as her brother, Ricky Hardy, and her sisters-in-law, Peggy and Jeri Hardy. These relationships enriched her life immeasurably, providing a network of support, laughter, and cherished memories.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas E. Mizell, her mother, Dorothy Laverne Scott, her sister, Jenell Hardy, and her brother, W.C. Hardy. Though they have gone before her, Linda carried their love and memory with her throughout her days.
Family and friends will gather to honor Linda’s life at visitation on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home, Kilgore, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore. Following the service, Linda will be laid to rest at Rocky Mount Cemetery, in Rocky Mount, Louisiana, at 2:00 p.m.
Linda’s steadfast love for her family, commitment to her faith, and her example of integrity and kindness will remain a guiding light for all who knew her. Those who remember her will cherish the memory of her thoughtful spirit, her gentle strength, and the enduring devotion she so freely gave.
Her memory lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and everyone whose life she touched.
