LaQuita Faye Preston, a beloved member of her community and cherished family matriarch, peacefully departed this life on September 26, 2025, in Kilgore, Texas. She was born on July 19, 1954, in Henderson, Texas, and was the daughter of John and Bobbie Jo Holt. LaQuita was equipped with a heart full of love and laughter, known for her fun-loving spirit, kind demeanor, and an infectious sense of humor that touched everyone she met.
LaQuita spent her career as a nurse's aide at a local nursing home, where she brought joy and compassion to those in her care. Those who had the privilege of knowing her appreciated her good-natured approach and her genuine love for animals. She had a particular knack for encouraging fun and playfulness amongst her family and friends, forever remembered as the “fun aunt” who played and spent joyful moments with her nieces and nephews.
While her life was punctuated by immeasurable joy, it was also tinged with sorrow. LaQuita faced profound loss with the passing of her son, Michael Shane Hughes, in a tragic car accident. This heart-wrenching event shaped her life, as her son was her world; she found solace in her faith and was ready to reunite with him in Heaven. She has also reunited with her parents, her brothers John Daniel Holt and Joseph Daniel Holt, and her brother's-in-law; Bobby Harp, Stephen Jordan, Jimmy Fleming.
LaQuita's passions included quilting, a hobby she poured her heart into, creating beautiful pieces that often served as gifts for her loved ones, each stitch a reflection of her care. Her proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly tied to her family; she valued each moment spent with them and made lasting memories that will be cherished by all.
To honor her life and spirit, a visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore on September 30, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. LaQuita will be laid to rest at Kildare Cemetery in Bivins, Texas, on October 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
