Kathryn Kay “Kathy” Wentworth passed away peacefully at her home on September 2, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on May 28, 1951, in Norman, Oklahoma, Kathy will be remembered for her deep faith, love for her family, gift for conversation, and genuine interest in the lives of others.

The daughter of a Church of Christ preacher, Kathy’s faith was an important part of her life and helped shape the compassion she showed to others. That caring spirit extended into her professional life, including her work in Human Resources with the American Optometric Association. Through her work with the InfantSEE program, Kathy helped support efforts to provide infants and young children with access to early eye and vision care.

Kathy had a curious mind and many interests. She loved writing and had a particular interest in genealogy and World War II history. She was also, quite fittingly, known as a “Chatty Kathy.” She was rarely at a loss for words or a clever quip, and a conversation with Kathy could be thoughtful, funny, engaging, and even therapeutic. She listened, she cared, and she had a remarkable ability to turn a conversation with a stranger into the beginning of a friendship.

Above all, Kathy loved her family. She shared 27 years of marriage with her husband, Gregory “Skip” Wentworth, who lovingly called her “Kate.” She was the love of his life, and the life they shared together was deeply important to them both.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Skip; her son, Kevin Pigg and his wife, Kristie; her daughter, Amanda Montandon and her husband, Berkeley; and her beloved grandchildren, Maxim “Max,” Spencer, Landon, Lily, and Lakelynne. Her grandchildren held an especially treasured place in her heart and brought tremendous joy to her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, O.J. Russell; her mother, Dorothy Russell; and her sister, Janet.

Kathy leaves behind more than a list of the people who loved her. She leaves memories of long conversations, laughter, faith, friendship, curiosity, and a woman who cared deeply about the people in her life. Those who knew Kathy will remember her voice, her personality, her love for her family, and the unmistakable way she made herself part of the lives of those around her.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
