Kaleb Thomas Shafer touched so many lives in his 27 years. A life rich with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Born on June 22, 1999, in Kilgore, Kaleb brought light and warmth into the world from his very first breath. On August 11, 2026, in Oklahoma, his journey on earth came to a close, but as those who knew and loved him can attest, his spirit will remain forever woven in the hearts he cherished.

Kaleb’s story is anchored by the love of his family, with whom he shared a deep and abiding bond. He was the beloved son of Melissa Moore-Shafer whose love and pride for her son knew no bounds. From early on, Kaleb held a special place in the Moore family; he was the first grandchild and the first boy, a milestone that filled his grandparents’ hearts with joy.

Kaleb’s mother was his best friend. Together, they traveled and built an unbreakable friendship that stood as a testament to the depth of their love for each other. For Kaleb, family was everything, and nothing mattered more than sharing moments, big and small, with those he cared for most. Birthdays held a special significance for him; he would often go to great lengths, driving or even flying home, to surprise his family members and be by their side, turning those occasions into joyful, unforgettable celebrations.

Two of the strongest threads in Kaleb’s tapestry were his relationships with his grandparents, Thomas Ray Moore and Sue Moore, whose guidance and care played an instrumental role throughout his childhood. Affectionately known as Nana and Papa, they helped raise Kaleb and shaped the young man he became. His Papa taught him to ride a bike and took him fishing, simple joys that became treasured memories. His Nana’s gentle encouragement and lessons, such as teaching him to play piano, illuminated his formative years with music and tenderness.

To his aunts; Sissy Moore, Amanda Pickard and his uncle, Shannon Pickard, Kaleb was a source of pride and affection. His cousins Reign, Bralee, and Jet Pickard and bonus mom Melody Davenport delighted in the warmth and fun he brought to every gathering. His large family adored Kaleb, and Kaleb adored each of them, each of their lives are forever touched by Kaleb’s kindness and presence.

Kaleb’s grandfather, Cris Shafer, who preceded him in death, no doubt welcomed him with open arms into eternity. He is lovingly remembered by his father, Shawn Shafer, aunt Cristy Shafer, cousins Lindsey Exline, Leslie Bennett, and William Bennett, his grandmother Lou Fortson, along with many other beloved family members who shared in the joy of knowing him.

Kaleb graduated from Sabine High School in 2017, a proud moment for both him and his family, and went on to attend Kilgore College to continue his education. True to his energetic and hardworking spirit, he forged a path in the oil field, work that demanded grit, dedication, and strength.

Above all, it was Kaleb’s personality that will be remembered most vividly. Always happy and smiling, he radiated positivity, making others feel valued and seen. He was known for his kind heart, his desire to make people happy, and his unselfish tendency to lift the spirits of those around him. A people-pleaser in the purest sense, he took joy in treating everyone, making sure his love was felt in every interaction.

A memorial visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home, 401 N Martin St, Kilgore on August 15, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location at 3:00 PM. All are welcome to honor and remember a young man whose life, though too brief, was a testament to love, kindness, and the joy of being together.

Though his journey was short, Kaleb Thomas Shafer’s impact will be timeless. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated by all who had the joy of knowing him.
