Services for Mr. Johnny J. Mumphrey, 75 of Kilgore will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore with Bro. Darryl Bowdre officiating. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2022 at the Funeral Home. Mr. Mumphrey passed away at his home on Thursday, August 25th.
Johnny Mumphrey was born on September 27, 1946, in Tyler, Texas, to the late John L. and Artie Austin Mumphrey. Johnny attended and graduated from Jackson Heights High School in Chapel Hill in the class of 1965. After graduating high school, Mr. Mumphrey continued his education at Prairie View A & M University. Mr. Mumphrey made a career in the Oil & Gas Industry starting with Dowell as a pump engineer. He later moved into production and spent 20 years as a Lease Operator for Getty Oil and Texaco. He completed his career with SND Energy and later Breightburn Energy.
Mr. Mumphrey was an active member of Westview Church of Christ, where he served as a Trustee. Johnny was baptized in 1988. He enjoyed tinkering and repairing small engines. Mr. Mumphrey loved the Lord, cherished his family, and enjoyed the time he was able to spend with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Artie Mumphrey; loving wife of 48 years Tommie Mumphrey; siblings Mac Arthur Mumphrey, Edwin Mumphrey, and Aubrey Mumphrey.
Johnny is survived by his sons Dr. Johnny J. Mumphrey, Jr. (Nikita); and Adrian Mumphrey Sr. (Angelia); Step-daughters Ramona Bivins (Charlton), Pamela Thurman-Ford (JD), Anita Gonzalez; daughters Tonya Mosely and Delores “Niki” Brown (Adrian) grandchildren, Steven Ashley, Jr.(Travonda), Krystal Ashley, Jonathan Franklin, Erica Thurman, Corey Thurman, Jazzmine Thurman, Joslyn Moore (Joshua), A’Kia Hargrove (Wayne), Xavia Mumphrey, Jason Ford, Alana Mumphrey, Chris Bates, Alex Mumphrey, Adrian Mumphrey, Jr. and Ayden Mumphrey; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Joyce Sanders and Ruth Hazel (Michael) Cook; and a host of other relatives and friends.
