Obituary

JG (Johnny) Green went to be with his LORD and Savior on July 23, 2026. He was born on March 13, 1949, to Jefferson Levern Green and Lucille Edna Green.

Johnny was married to Elizabeth (“Lizzy,” as he lovingly called her) Green for 1½ happy years. Together and throughout their time, Johnny delighted in serving God and loving his family. He was known for his warm, genuine spirit—his laugh could light up a room.

Johnny had four children: Crystal Powell (and husband Larry Powell), Gwyn Starr (and husband Alan Starr), Sonya Henry, and Johnny Michael Green (and wife Laurie Green). He also had two stepsons: Caleb Doyle (and wife Maria Doyle) and Aaron Doyle (and wife Claudia Doyle).

He was blessed with grandchildren Stephen, Maci, Kaisee, Halee, Caleb, Dustin, and Madison; and step-grandchildren Richard, Rowan, Charlotte, Clarice, Camden, Preslee, Noah, Aiden, and Eden. Johnny loved each of them deeply.

Johnny served as a minister for 47 years. He loved serving the Lord and often said that he was a “Friend of God.” He also enjoyed ministering with Lizzy through Blacklight Puppetry. Those who knew him remember a life grounded in faith, family, and joy.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Green; his children and stepchildren; his grandchildren; and his siblings: Roger Green (Rhonda), Cecil Green (Zina), and David Green (Anna). Johnny also loved his sisters-in-law: Janis Jordan (Wayne), Carolyn Synoground (Larry), Linda Holmes, Theresa Smith (Kevin), and Regina Ernest (Mario) as well as many other loving family and friends.

Johnny was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Vallie Green, as well as his mother Lucille and father Jefferson. He was also preceded by his oldest daughter Cynthia; granddaughter Chelsea; and great grandson Miles. He was preceded by his brothers Otis, Jerry, Tommy, and his sister Faye; and by his son-in-law Melvin Henry.

Services for Mr. Green will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Billy Fergerson and Bro. Ronnie McGee officiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.

Mr. Green will be laid to rest at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas with Military Honors at a later date.
