John Clayton
Teague, Jr.
Mar 30, 1952 — Jun 30, 2026
John Clayton Teague, Jr., born on March 30, 1952, in Orange, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, in Kilgore. Those who knew John remember a man of unwavering dedication, an enduring work ethic, and a deep, abiding love for his family, a man who leaves a lasting impression on all who knew him.
From humble beginnings in East Texas, John followed a path of service that defined his extraordinary life. He humbly dedicated himself to his country through roles in the police reserves, retiring after 20 years in the Air Force as an air traffic controller. His commitment to public service extended beyond his military career, as he contributed to the safety and wellbeing of his community through roles in his services as an EMT and later on as a respiratory therapist at Good Shepherd, touching countless lives with his steady hands and compassionate spirit.
John’s love for all things classic was apparent in how he chose to spend his time. He found joy in the freedom of the open road, whether astride his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle or behind the wheel of a classic car, relishing every rumble and roar. Horses held a special place in his heart, and the stories of old westerns brought him great comfort and inspiration, connecting him to values he cherished: loyalty, courage, and perseverance.
Above all, John will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to family, a large, loving group who were the center of his world. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Paula Brooks Teague, and his mother, Norma Teague. His legacy continues through his children: son Chris Teague and daughter-in-law Stephanie Teague; daughter Clair Cochran; daughter Kelly Taylor and son-in-law Jake Taylor; and daughter Karen Strand and son-in-law Dan Strand. John's role as grandfather brought him immense joy; his grandchildren and great- grandchildren; Kristin, Gavin, Jesse, Hannah, Lowell, Reagan, Robert, Riley, Kelsey, Katelyn, Kendal, Michael, Daniel, Tommy, Kaden, John, Emmett, Gwen, and Hannah. He is also survived by his siblings Clark “Sunny” (Belinda) Teague, David (Alicia) Teague, Randy Teague, and Norma Louise Stringer. Each brought light and laughter into his life. Those closest to him will forever carry the memory of a hard-working man whose strength was matched only by the kindness and care he freely gave. He lived and loved with quiet dignity, shaping a legacy that will endure in the hearts of his family and all who shared in his journey.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Clayton Teague, Sr., and his brother, Leslie Teague. Though they have gone before him, the bonds of family and memory remain unbroken.
John’s life will be honored with a private family committal service at Rocksprings Cemetery in Gladewater, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in John's name to the Fisher House Foundation, linked below.
As we mourn the passing of John Clayton Teague, Jr., we also give thanks for a life so beautifully lived and for the legacy of love, service, and devotion he leaves behind.
