Jane "Janie" Foster Bean Henley, aged 85, passed away at her home on Friday, April 17 surrounded by her family and caregivers with a life full of cherished memories and meaningful contributions. Born on March 27, 1941, in Kilgore, Texas, Janie was raised alongside her two older sisters, Betty and Patsy, by her devoted parents, Ella "Bobbie" Bean and Foster Trammell Bean.
A proud graduate of Kilgore High School’s class of 1959, Janie met her high school sweetheart, Alan Ivey Jones, during those formative years. She went on to attend Texas Christian University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Education in just three years. During her time at TCU, Janie was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and honored as a Frogette in November 1961. In 1962, she married Alan at the First Presbyterian Church in Kilgore.
Following their wedding, Janie and Alan moved to Dallas, where she devoted herself to teaching second grade and beginning their family. Their first daughter, Juliana, was born in 1965, followed by their second daughter, Kathleen, a few years later. In 1971, Janie returned to Kilgore with her daughters, becoming an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Kilgore Garden Club.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Ivey Jones; daughter, Juliana Jones; mother, Ella "Bobbie" Bean; father, Foster Trammell Bean; sisters Betty Lee Shore and Patricia Harrison; and brothers-in-law W.R. Shore and Paul Harrison. She is lovingly remembered and survived by her daughter Kathleen Jones Rodriguez and son-in-law Peter Rodriguez; grandchildren, Samuel, and Michael Rodriguez and Gabriella and grandson-in-law Ashwin Murali; granddaughter Kailey McDaniel and grandson-in-law Hunter McDaniel; great-grandson Nash McDaniel; as well as nieces and nephews, Jeanie Kuers, Sharanne LaBarge, Sharlotte Shore, Rick Shore, Foster Harrison and Paula Harrison.
Janie’s life was marked by dedication to family, education, and community service. Her legacy will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She so valued and treasured her friendships since her childhood and all throughout her life.
A celebration of life will be held at Three O'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, April 21 at First Presbyterian Church in Kilgore with Reverend Jerry Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at the Kilgore Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5:30 until 7:00.
