Jim McCarty, 76 years of age, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Christus Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview. He was born December 2, 1947 in Stephenville, Texas to the late Ruby and Byron McCarty and was an only child.
Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served in the Navy for 4 years. After an honorable discharge, he worked various jobs in the oil and gas industry but spent most of his career with Halliburton as a cement operator and later transferring to nitrogen fracturing operations. During his early years at Halliburton, he met and fell in love with a nurse from Kilgore named Sara Watson. They married shortly thereafter on August 18,1978.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family fishing, camping, and going to his kid’s sporting events. He was also passionate about his canine family that typically consisted of mutts, local rescues and whatever his wife brought home. He routinely attended services at Missionary Baptist Church in Kilgore and cherished fellowship with his church family.
Jim is survived by Sara McCarty, his loving wife of 46 years, his 3 children, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, church family and friends.
