Jack Donald Florence, born on September 9, 1928, in Kilgore, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was a distinguished chemical engineer whose career spanned an impressive 38 years with Cabot Corporation, during which he held various roles and was instrumental in building plants across multiple locations, including Pampa, Texas; Franklin, Louisiana; Parkersburg, West Virginia; Boston, and Atlanta.
Jack's educational journey began at Kilgore High School, from which he graduated in 1945. He was a graduate of North Texas University with a Chemistry Degree, where he furthered his knowledge and honed his skills, ultimately paving the way for a successful professional life in engineering.
A veteran of the Korean War, Jack served as a medic in the Army, embodying a spirit of service and commitment that he carried throughout his life. Known fondly as a gentleman and a scholar, Jack contributed not only to his field but also to his community. A second-generation member of the Lions Club for an impressive 75 years, he actively participated in numerous other organizations including the Elks American Legion and the Chemical Association. His philanthropic efforts were significant, as he generously supported the Baptist Children's Home, Boys Town, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and the Humane Society. He was also a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kilgore.
Jack cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his daughter, Penny Huey of Kilgore, and his grandchildren, Bobby Jack Huey of Dallas and Mary Ruth Huey Steward of Dallas. He also leaves behind his stepchildren, Mark Cox, Kay Cox, and Ray Cox. His beloved puppies and kittens were considered his great-grandchildren, bringing joy to his later years.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Roberts Florence and Ferne Parker Florence; parents, J.T. Florence and Mary Jeanette Florey; stepfather, WD Love and stepsister, Ann Love Derr.
Services for Jack Florence, 97 of Kilgore, Texas, will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church in Kilgore starting at 11:00 AM with Dr. Rev. Jerry Carpenter officiating under the direction of Rader Funeral Home. Private family burial will follow at Kilgore Cemetery.
