Hazel D. McCormack Hays was born in Brachfield, TX October 29, 1931 to John McCormack, Jr. and Eula Parker McCormack. She was the youngest of 4 children. Grady McCormack, Billie Marie McCormack Smith and James Carlton McCormack all preceded her in death. Hazel was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles L Hays and one son Charles Randy Hays. Hazel was a devoted Christian and cherished her faith, family and friends. She enjoyed working in her yard, growing beautiful flowers. She worked at Betty’s Flowers Kilgore and was bookkeeper for family business Texas Fishing Tools, Inc. She loved her family and enjoyed their visits and company. Friendships were very important to her and her loyalty was impeccable. She was very grateful to all those that would help her in a time of need. She was a graduate of Henderson High School in 1950. To this day her classmates were very important to her heart. She was a member of First Baptist Church for 60 years and attended the Joyful Martha Sunday School class. Her church family and Sunday school class held a very dear place in her heart. Many of the friends continued to visit and send cards through her illness. Sending cards were Hazel’s way of ministry. She was a member of the WOW’s and enjoyed many social trips, luncheons and friendships during this ministry for those who had lost family members. She also enjoyed traveling around the USA with the Citizens Bank travel club and many friends.
Survivors are her daughter Dena Alexander and her “favorite” son-in-law Steve Alexander. Grandchildren and spouses Stephanie Alexander of Kilgore, Bryan Alexander (Stacy) of Arkansas, Courtney(Randall) Woodard, Gladewater, Kristen (Jeromy), Longview. Great Grandchildren Cayson Cash Wilkens and Keyton Charles Wilkens, Longview. She is also survived by special niece Jean Moore and husband Leon, Henderson. And a host nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors.
Her family would like to acknowledge her loyal and faithful friends, as these relationships continued uninterrupted as Hazel declined in health were an incredible gift. In her last years, Hazel was well cared for in the beginning of her illness by Ginger Becker and later years by Parkview. She was wonderfully blessed to have many loving caregivers while at Parkview. Mother always said “Treat others with kindness and they will be kind to you”. This was so true with all the staff and workers and friends at Parkview, as well as her lifelong friends.
