Freddie David Hughes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 22, 2024, in Kilgore, Texas. Born on September 12, 1930, in Maybanks, Texas, he lived a full life to his family, community, and service to his country.

Freddie's career was marked by hard work and dedication. He spent 25 years at Kilgore Ceramics and also worked at Ruston Mobil Station and Oil Masters, where he conducted car inspections until his retirement. Freddie’s love for sports was evident throughout his life; he was an umpire for the  (KBBA) for many years, contributing to the joy of countless young athletes in the area. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Kilgore, and he actively supported his sons, Steve and Craig, as they played football under the Friday night lights. His pride was palpable as he watched Craig excel in baseball at Kilgore High School.

Freddie was not only a hard worker but also a devoted family man. He had many cherished memories of watching his grandchildren achieve success in academics, sports, and cheerleading. Known affectionately as Papa, he was admired for his infectious laugh, kind soul, and tender heart. His devotion and love for his family exemplified the American dream of God, family, and living life to the fullest.

His military service in the United States Navy, which began at the young age of 17, showcased his patriotism as he served as a veteran of the Korean War. Freddie’s commitment to his country and community was unwavering throughout his life.
