Ellen Mary Wright, lovingly known to many as Mary, passed away on October 7, 2026. She was born on December 27, 1943, in Bonham, Texas, and lived a life defined by love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Mary will be remembered as a loving and selfless woman who took care of everyone around her. She was the kind of mother and grandmother whose care reached far beyond words, and to those who knew her best, she was simply the best mom ever. Strong in spirit and devoted in heart, she spent her life putting others first and giving of herself freely to the people she loved.
She retired from Dogan Middle School in Tyler, where she worked as a cook. In that role, as in so many parts of her life, she served others with steady dedication. Her greatest pride was her family. She raised several of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spent her whole life as a caregiver to all, creating a legacy of love, sacrifice, and deep family bonds that will continue for generations.
Mary also found joy in the simple things that reflected her warm spirit. She loved butterflies, small and beautiful reminders of gentleness and grace that suited her well. She also found joy in the simple things that reflected her warm spirit. Those who knew her will remember a woman whose strength was steady, whose love was constant, and whose presence brought comfort to so many.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Becky Hansbro and Denise Bryant; her son, Kenny Ainsworth; and her son-in-law, Boyd Hansbro. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Beth Maxwell and Chris Nab, Johnny and Sara Staton, Billy and Ashley Staton, Kevin Bryant Jr. and Shayna, and Vangie and Brandon Green as well as 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Clifton and Trish Price, and Roy and Lori Riggs. Her family was the center of her life, and the love she poured into them will continue to be felt for generations.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ottis Joe Wright; her father, Albert Spencer; her mother, Vangie Elvoice Riggs; her twin brother, Jerry Riggs; her brothers James (Lois) Riggs, Ray (Pam) Riggs, and Billy Riggs; and her sisters Sandra “Sue” Parks and Brenda (Jerry) Parrish.
A graveside service to honor Mary’s life will be held on October 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Kilgore Memorial Gardens, Hwy 31, Kilgore, Texas 75662.
Mary’s life was a testament to family, sacrifice, and enduring love. She gave comfort, guidance, and care without hesitation, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her. Her love remains woven into the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all those she nurtured so faithfully.
