Kilgore

Doug Fuller, a beloved figure in the Kilgore community and a devoted family man, passed away on June 17, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. He was born on September 16, 1945, in Abilene, Texas, and lived a life rich with service and dedication, both to his family and his church.

Doug enjoyed a varied career, famously working many jobs and retiring multiple times, embodying a spirit of resilience and adaptability. Among his fond memories, Doug cherished his time serving his church, First Pentecostal Church of Kilgore. He took great pleasure in enlisting the help of his children, especially as his janitorial team, fostering a sense of teamwork and family values that he held dear.

An alumnus of Snyder High School, Doug distinguished himself as a pole vault champion and an athlete and showcased his athletic prowess by running track and playing baseball. His adventurous spirit and active lifestyle led him to embark on various career paths, culminating in retirement not once, but four times. Doug served honorably in the Texas Army National Guard from September 1965 to September 1971, an experience that formed an integral part of his character. He often recounted the joy of returning home from monthly drills, sharing small gifts with his children. His energetic and active personality left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

His commitment to his church was unparalleled; he fulfilled numerous roles, from teaching Sunday school and driving the Sunday school bus to being an active participant on the church softball team. He also served as a board member, janitor, and usher, demonstrating his willingness to contribute wherever needed. Doug's passion for life extended beyond the church; he was a devoted fan of the Texas Longhorns and the Texas Rangers and was particularly proud of earning the title of Bowling Champion.

Doug's proudest accomplishments were reflected in his family and church family, whom he loved and respected deeply. He is survived by his children, Pamela (Reverend Joe) Shaw, Laquita (Shawn) Pinkley, Mark (Annette) Fuller, and Nathan Fuller. Doug also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as his uncle James Hazle, nieces, nephews, and a beloved extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of 59 years Katie Marie Fuller, his mother Kathleen Ellington, his father Al Fuller, and his brother Joe Fuller.
