Kilgore, Texas

Dennis Joseph Cooley, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully departed this life on May 26, 2025, in Kilgore, Texas, at the age of 75. Born on December 10, 1949, in Racine, Wisconsin, Dennis’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith, loving spirit, and commitment to family and community.

For nearly three decades, Dennis dedicated himself to his career at GTE as a Switching Technician, where he was known for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand. Yet, his true legacy extends far beyond his professional achievements. A devoted U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran, Dennis carried with him a deep sense of duty and service, which he continued to express throughout his life.

Dennis was not just a good and godly man; he was the embodiment of a loving husband, Daddy, and Papa. His enduring love for his wife, Donna Hooker Cooley, was a beautiful example of partnership and devotion. Dennis took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, whom he adored wholeheartedly. He found joy in encouraging and teaching them, filling their lives with laughter as well as valuable spiritual and life lessons.

Deeply engaged with his church, Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Dennis exemplified a servant's heart. He evangelized for the Highway 80 Rescue Mission for many years and dedicated himself to caring for the church and its members. His role as an evangelist and his contributions to the church community were not just acts of service but expressions of his faith and love for the Lord.

Dennis had the ability to make people laugh, spreading joy wherever he went. Those who knew him will always remember his warmth, his ability to connect with others, and his bright, infectious smile. He never hesitated to lend a hand to those in need. His proudest accomplishments included his ever-growing family, the bonds he built within his church family, and his steadfast commitment to sharing the gospel—all of which he held close to his heart.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Donna; their children Tonya (Randy) Cox and Stephen (Angie) Grimes; grandchildren, Macy (Ryan) Bustin, Colby (Taylor) Grimes, Megan (Tristian) Wright, Haley (Zachary) Smith, Drew, Jake, and Micah Cox; his brothers, Chuck Cooley, Richard (Trish) Cooley, and Craig (Christy) Cooley; his sister, Patty Bell; and numerous beloved family members and devoted church family.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Joseph and Rosetta Cooley; treasured daughter Dawn Poe; along with other beloved family members.
