Obituary

Betty Gillentine Ormes, born Betty Young on March 21, 1946, in Oak Hill, Texas, left this world on July 2, 2026, in Kilgore, Texas. Her life was a tapestry of devotion, strength, and unwavering love for her family, a legacy that will continue to warm hearts and inspire all of those who knew her.

Betty's journey was defined by her faithfulness and dedication, shaping her not only as a strong woman but as a devoted wife, sister, and cherished family member. She built a loving home and shared her life in partnership with her late husband, Harold Gillentine. Together, they poured their energy and dreams into owning a car lot and a gift shop—a reflection of their shared ambition and commitment to each other. After Harold’s passing, Betty carried that determination forward and found fulfillment as a hairdresser, using her warm spirit and skillful hands to brighten the lives of her clients.

Her passions extended far beyond her work. Betty and Harold found immense joy traveling together across beautiful landscapes in their motor home and setting sail on memorable cruises. Those adventures were treasured chapters in her life, filled with laughter, exploration, and companionship.

At home, Betty's artistic flair shone brightest. She was an excellent seamstress, crafting exquisite garments with care and creativity. Each Christmas, she and her beloved Harold became Mr. and Mrs. Claus, donning costumes she lovingly made herself. Together, they delivered presents to all her nieces and nephews, creating magical memories that will never be forgotten. These small acts of kindness and her heartfelt generosity spoke volumes about her character.

Betty’s hands worked wonders in the kitchen, where her skill for cooking brought family and friends together. Her love for flowers added color and beauty to her life and home, echoing the vibrance she carried within her heart.

Family was the cornerstone of Betty’s world. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by her surviving sister, Connie Smith Duffey, and her brother-in-law, Jim Duffey. In her passing, she reunites with those who went before her: her husbands, Harold Gillentine and Tommy Craver; her father, Alton; her mother, Sible Young; her sister, Margaret Rogers; and her brother-in-law, Thomas Rogers.

As we bid farewell to Betty, we honor a life marked by strength, deep devotion, and unwavering love for family. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy woven into family traditions, the laughter she brought to holiday gatherings, and the countless memories she created for all who were lucky enough to call her family or friend.

A graveside service will be held in loving memory of Betty on Tuesday, July 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairway Garden of Memories Cemeteries, located on Highway 16 W., Van, Texas, 75790.

Betty's spirit remains in every flower she admired, every meal she shared, and every stitch sown with love. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory is a cherished blessing, and her love will live on in the hearts of all whose lives she touched.
