Obituary

Betty Jane Mayfield Stephens, lived a life of love. Betty left this earthly world on December 19, 2025, in Kilgore, Texas, and moved into her new home in Heaven, at the age of 79. She was born on March 10, 1946, in Marshall Texas.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Georgie Lee Simmons Mayfield, father Andrew Jackson "Jack" Mayfield II, daughter Trudy, son Troy, five siblings, and a great-granddaughter. Also 2 fur babies, Mutt & Popcorn, her older dogs. Each loss was hard on her heart, but she had courage and strength, and endless resilience that shone through in everything she did.

Betty was a hard worker from the beginning. From getting married at 17 and raising 4 children, she also worked different jobs though out her life. A school bus driver, a waitress at the Hot Biscuit in Kilgore, to owning a metal scrapping business, driving trucks, and managing rental properties. But she always made time for family, friends, and neighbors. Her home was a place where everyone was welcomed with open arms, always a fresh pot of coffee, sweet tea, "Are you hungry, let me fix you something to eat?" and maybe a game of dominos.

Betty enjoyed taking care of people and making them feel at home, Betty was always kind and that was especially felt by her grandchildren and all the animals she would take in to save. You knew you were loved, not just by her words but her actions. You could be stranded 500 miles away, and she would come get you or find a way to get you home.

Betty is survived by her greatest accomplishment her children whom she cherished; Teresa (Wayne) Richenberger, Truitt (Patti) Stephens, Charlotte (Buster) Brown, Mike (Audrey) Kindred, and Sandra Kindred, and her beloved daughter-in-law, Lisa Stephens. Betty's legacy is carried forth through her grandchildren: Nick Richenberger, Jayden Bynum, Trey (Sarah) Stephens, Justin Stephens, Chelsea (Keith) Bostic, Lawanda Hutton, Kenneth (Emily) Stephens, Jesseca (Pete) Chreene, Brittney Stephens, Riley (Darci) Stephens, and Sydney Walsh. Also her dear sister Mary Littlepage, niece Mary (Jerry) Bynum, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her precious fur babies; Brave, Curly, and Little Girl the dogs, Tigger and Midnight the cats, and her beloved horses Lightning, Ginger and Mrs. Cookie. Her legacy of compassion shaped not only her own family but also her community.

In her life, Betty was also blessed with great-grandchildren; Lainey, , Emersynn, Pete, Eli, Mathew, Morgin, M'Kailyn, Amelia, Skylar, Hilary, Candace, Bailey, Sadie, Hopelynn, Hadleigh, Hinleigh, Heatyn, Houston, Jamisen, Donna, Christy, Patricia, Isabella, Rosalie, Demean, Heaven, Kenneth, Charles, Abigail, Nicholas, Rainy, Paisley, Dayton and Abilene.

Betty will be remembered for her remarkable ability to care for everyone and every animal in need. Her legacy of love extends far beyond her family; it lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. As we gather to celebrate her life, visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, Texas, on December 29, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a celebration of her remarkable life at 2:00 PM.
