Funeral services for Aubrey McElroy, 89 of Kilgore will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, Revs. John Gradberg, Jr. and Freeman Pierce officiating. Burial will follow at Mixon Cemetery in Troup, Texas. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
Aubrey was born April 7, 1933 in Troup, Texas to the late Homer Alfred McElroy and Velma Burns. Aubrey received his criminal justice degree from Kilgore Police Academy. Mr. McElroy worked Gregg County Sheriff’s Department as a constable and Sheriff Deputy for over 25 years. He volunteered at Red Cross where he taught CPR certification classes and taught prisoners to obtain their GED certification through the Prisons Education Department. Mr. McElroy enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather who will be missed by all that knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 24 years, Barbara McElroy of Kilgore; sons, Aubrey D. McElroy, Jr. and wife Janey of Tennessee, Anthony McElroy and wife Flecia of Kilgore; daughters, Ellyn Willardson and husband Ron of Kilgore and Barbara Fields and husband, Scott of Kilgore; 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Also, left to carry on his legacy are numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other loving family members.
