Wilma was born on June 26, 1927, in Birmingham, AL, to William and Willie Myrtle Somers. She graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham. She was an excellent cook, especially her desserts. She loved to crochet and was an accomplished seamstress, sewing her children’s clothes when they were young and her daughter’s wedding dress. Her family was the source of her strength and spending time with them was when she was happiest.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Patricia Hurd and her husband Geoff of Pittsburg, PA, Fred Jackson and his wife Barbara of East Mountain; grandchildren, Emily Hurd of Denver, CO, Andrew Hurd and Carolyn Hurd both of Pittsburg, PA, Rebecca Amado and her husband Kenny of Corpus Christi, Jared Jackson and his wife Christina of White Oak; great-grandchildren, Bentley Jackson and Brooklyn Jackson; sister, Josephine Balydoe of Odenville, AL and her furbaby Chewy. Also, left to carry on her legacy are several nieces, nephews, friends, and other loving family members.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Larry Norman Jackson, daughter-in-law Barbara Kay Jackson and a sister Marjorie Marie Thompson.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to HeartsWay Hospice of Northeast Texas, especially her caregivers Liz, Stacy, and Corrina, for their compassionate and loving care of Wilma during the final days of her earthly journey.
