Rick "Booger" Gill

December 19, 1962 — March 4, 2021

Rick “Booger” Gill, beloved husband, father, friend, who meant something special to everyone “marched fourth” into Heaven to meet his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the age of 58.

Rick was born on December 19, 1962 in Houston, TX to Richard “Bookie” Gill and Carolyn Cooper Gill. Rick was a graduate of Galena Park High School class of 1981. He continued his education after high school to become a law enforcement officer, and volunteer firefighter. After his years in law enforcement, he became a railroad detective for Southern Pacific Railroad and then he became a locomotive engineer at Union Pacific Railroad. Rick had the honor of running the 4141 train from Hearne to Palestine before it eventually arrived to permanently rest at the George W. Bush Library. He also had the privilege of running the Union Pacific 4014 “Big Boy” in Palestine. Rick was the Local Chairman for Division 857 of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.

Booger, as he was affectionately known, also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson with his motorcycle group the “Wild Hawgs / Scrap Iron Boys” and they traveled to Colorado every year to ride together. Along with riding with many friends here in East Texas. One of Rick’s favorite hobbies was working on his 1972 Chevy Cheyenne. Booger was also a BBQ fanatic, many times driving several hours to eat from a restaurant that he had heard or read about. Rick was also crazy about James Coney Island hot dogs enough to drive four hours to get his hands on some. As a rule, Rick enjoyed driving and taking road trips no matter the distance. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lakeport. He was 32nd degree Mason from his home lodge 670 in Garrison, Texas and a member of the Houston Scottish Rite. Booger’s family was the source of his strength and joy.
Spending time with his family and friends was when he was happiest.

Rick was reunited at the heavenly gates with his parents, his sister, Crystal , his paternal grandparents, Delwin “D.T.” Thompson “Ubber” Gill, and Elzada Gill, and maternal grandparents Mamaw Jean and Papaw Robert V. Cooper.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 28 years, Wendy Johnson Gill of Henderson; son, Justin Travis Gill of Henderson; siblings, sister Jeannine Wingate (Roger) of Mount Enterprise; brother, Tommy Gill (Melissa) of Dayton, sister Mechail Cox (James) of Brownwood, in-laws, Jim and Nancy Johnson of Rowlett; sisters in law, Kathy Moore (Rodney) of The Colony, Jenny McDonald (J.R.) of Eufaula, OK and Deana Harmon (Kevin) of San Leon. Also, left to carry on his legacy are numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, their children, and other loving family members. Rick had many special friends who became family. Rick would want them to know how much they were loved and appreciated. He would want these people to reach out to Wendy and Justin in this difficult time to share memories of life.
