Reverend Walter L. Williams

October 23, 1923 — March 17, 2019

Rev. Walter Lee Williams, 95, of Kilgore, Texas, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, March 17, 2019, in his home. He will finally get to see the face of the One he served and preached about for more than 60 years. He is also reunited with his precious wife, Evelyn Williams, who preceded him in death.
Bro. Williams was a church builder with a true pastor’s heart. He pastored congregations in Liberty, Etoile, Grand Saline, Hillsboro, and Overton, Texas. When he wasn’t preaching, studying for a sermon, working in the church, witnessing, visiting the sick, or teaching others, he could be found painting houses, tinkering around in his workshop, or tending his garden. He won many souls to Jesus Christ and mentored many young ministers of the Gospel. He was a hard worker, and taught others to do the same.
Walter Williams was born on October 13, 1923, to Webster and Maggie Williams of Huntsville, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a truck driver and held other positions before he was called to preach the Gospel. His children and grandchildren have a beautiful heritage because of his service to God.
In addition to his wife, also preceding him in death is his son, Rev. Tommy Williams. Left behind to cherish his memory are his three sisters, Earline Brown of Conroe, Yvonne Brown of Huntsville, and Doris Foley of Angleton and one brother, Rev. Harold Williams of West Columbia. He left two children: Walter L. Williams, Jr. of Fruitvale with his wife, Sherry; and Mary Pharris of Kilgore with her husband, Russell. He also left behind eight grandchildren: Anthony Williams, Kaylynn Strawn, Stephanie Rivero, Russell Pharris, Jr., Marc Pharris, LaRonda Pharris, Josh Williams, Stormy Canady. Great-Grandchildren include Quinton Williams, Bethany Thompson, Noah Strawn, Faith Strawn, Abigail Rivero, Jonathan Rivero, Isaiah Rivero, Kennedy Bryant, Gunner Pharris, Christopher Pharris, Jonathan Pharris, Victoria Pharris, Brenna Williams, Brylee Williams, Breagan Williams, and Brycen Williams. Great-Great-Grandchildren include Atticus Strawn and Addyson Strawn. He will also be missed by many other family members and friends.
At the close of many services, he would sing the following song. It describes what he lived.
I want to live the way He wants me to live.
I want to give until there’s just no more to give.
I want to love, love ‘til there’s just no more love;
For I could never, never outlove the Lord.
