Melvin Splawn, 77 of Kilgore, completed his earthly journey in Richardson, Texas after a lengthy illness. Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Splawn will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 10 a.m., in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, with Rev. Alan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Rader funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Melvin was born on February 23, 1945 in Henderson, Texas to the late Elmo and Viola Splawn. Melvin was no stranger to hard work. For many years he worked two jobs, hauling wood and working at Kilgore Ceramics. Through his many years of experience, he became a master caster. His knowledge would take him to many different towns, from Hondo, Texas to Hearne, Texas and lastly to South Carolina where he designed a special mold that would be used for years. Mr. Splawn later retired back to Longview Texas. He married the love of his life Patricia Sims on December 29, 1961. Mr. Splawn was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed by all that knew him.
Mr. Splawn is preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Splawn, brother, Sam Splawn and grandson, Jeffery Splawn.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Patricia Splawn of Kilgore; daughter, Kristi Hamilton and husband Wil of Kilgore; son, Kelly Splawn and wife Angela of Odessa, Texas; brother, Mike Splawn and wife Gina of Kilgore; daughter-in-law, Leah Splawn of Sulphur Springs, Texas; grandchildren, Brandi Splawn of Kilgore, Klayton Turlington and wife Ashley of Kilgore, Kassidi Daniel and husband Justin of Kilgore, Madison Hamilton of Kilgore, Chelsi Robinovich and husband Max of League City, Texas, Chani Honeycutt and James of League City, Texas, Andrew Splawn and Mackie of Shreveport, La and Trevor Splawn and Montana of Odessa, Texas; great grandchildren, Sarah Turlington, Kolt Turlington, Kayde Turlington, Lexi Daniel and Kaslynn Daniel, Faithlynn Splawn, Remington Splawn, Asher and Rose Rabinovich, Anderson Narvaez, Jace Splawn, Braydon Splawn and Haley Splawn and very special nephew, James Phillips and wife Rhonda as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other loving family members.
