James E. LaBeff, 81, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 in Kilgore. Graveside service will be 2 pm Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the Liberty Chapel Cemetery in Carthage, Texas. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Monday, March 25, 2019 at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.

James was born November 12, 1937 in Smackover, AR to Joseph Elmer LaBeff and Mary Bridges LaBeff. He worked as a derrick hand in the oil field for many years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. And oh how he enjoyed food! He thoroughly enjoyed a good homecooked meal. Some of his favorites were chitlin cornbread and orange cake. Every meal had to have some kind of meat. His favorite saying was “Oh Boy!” But, even more than that, his true passion was his family. “Grandpa” as he was known to the grandchildren enjoyed many great memories playing outside together. His fun-loving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, JoAnne LaBeff; sons, James M. LaBeff, Jerry L. LaBeff, and Jeffery LaBeff; three sisters; and two brothers.

He is survived by his children, Judy Contreras, Joe E. LaBeff, John L. LaBeff, Jackie Chavez, and Jacob LaBeff; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who loved him dearly.
