Ira Todd Butler

January 5, 1954 — November 1, 2019

Cremation arrangements for Ira Todd Butler, 65, of Kilgore, Texas, are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mr. Butler passed away Friday, November 1, 2019 in Longview, Texas. The family will hold a Celebration of Life service at a later date.

Ira was born on January 5, 1954 in Marysville, California. He served in the Navy for several years, following the military footsteps of his father. In a professional setting he was a Chef for many years at a variety of levels. Mr. Butler recently had developed an interest in horticulture while getting his associates degree from Lee College. Ira had also shown a recent interest in counseling others that were following some of the same mistakes he has made over his early years. He enjoyed watching Dallas Cowboys football and has been a fan of them for as long as I can remember. Mr. Butler was a big fan of classic rock and was the first person to introduce me to the Eagles and their greatness. He was ecstatic to officially be a grandpa to my daughter (Amanda Ray Earhart) and was also thrilled to have another granddaughter on the way. After missing out on some of the fatherhood moments over the years I really think he was excited to have a real shot at being a "grandpa"! My father made many mistakes in his life, but one thing he never gave up on was trying to have a relationship with me regardless of where his choices took him.

Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda Katherine Butler and mother, Myretta Jane Milice.

Ira is survived by his daughter, Audrey Earhart and husband Adam of Oklahoma City, OK; father, Leo Scott Butler of Choctaw, Oklahoma; brothers, Greg Butler of Houston, Texas and Larry Butler of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Amanda Earhart; mother-in-law, Eva Lee Butler of Choctaw, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family members.
