Howard L. Rhodes

Mr. Howard L. Rhodes, 82, of Leverett’s Chapel, completed his earthly journey on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, in his home. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the family will hold a private graveside service at a later date. Mr. Rhodes has been entrusted to the care of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.

Howard was born on July 16, 1938, in Leverett’s Chapel to Clifton and Esther Rhodes. He attended Leverett’s Chapel school. Howard met and married the love of his life Katherine in 1955, and they spent the next 60 years making many loving and happy memories. During his occupational career he worked for Leverett’s Chapel ISD in the maintenance department, until he retired after 25 years, also he worked for several other companies doing various jobs. Howard was a life-time Methodist, attending Laird Hill United Methodist Church until they merged with Pirtle United Methodist Church and he was a faithful and devoted member until his passing. He served on the Leverett’s Chapel ISD School Board and the Kilgore Public Library Board for many years. Howard enjoyed reading, feeding the wild animals that visited him, listening to all genres of music, working outside in his yard, but especially putting out his displays of thousands of Christmas lights. He will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he has touched.

Howard was reunited at the heavenly gates by his parents, wife Katherine Rhodes, daughter Vickie Robins, grandchildren Kasey Robins, Billy Keith Robins, Austin Blake Holmes, and a sister Georgia Ledford.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Patty Horner and her husband John of Corpus Christi, Sandra Rhodes of Carthage, Lori Robinson of Leverett’s Chapel; grandchildren, Tiffani Baugh and her life partner Eric Chaffin of Austin, Michel Miles of Ohio, Derek Miles of San Antonio, Camille Nichols of Carthage; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Cliff Rhodes of Kilgore, Lynda Rhodes, and her husband Mert of Dallas. Also, to carry on his legacy are numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other loving family members.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made in Howard’s name to Pirtle United Methodist Church, 11278 County Rd 173 N, Overton, Texas, 75684.
