Funeral services for Helen Louise Davis, age 92, of Kilgore will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 2PM at the Grace Fellowship Church of Kilgore with Pastor Brian Nutt officiating. Burial will follow at Danville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12pm to 1:30pm before the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Mrs. Davis passed away on Tuesday February 4, 2020 at her home, with family present by her side.

Helen Louise Davis was born on August 14, 1927, in Brushy near Troup, Texas. Her parents were Charlie and Velma Stephenson. She had one older brother, Arlon C. Stephenson. In 1947, she married Willie F. (Bill) Davis, after which they moved to Kilgore. She remained married to him until his death in 1987.

Helen became a member of the First Assembly of God Church (now Grace Fellowship Church of Kilgore) in the late 1970’s. She joined Women’s Ministries of that church and later in the mid-1990’s became the head of her church’s women’s group, as well as, Keenagers. She remained their hardworking leader until 2013 when her health began to fail. She was the first woman to be elected to the church board, serving in this position for several terms. She remained devoted to God and her church until her death.

All that knew Helen knew of her love for animals. She rescued many cats that came to her yard, starving and homeless. Many a songbird and squirrel were sustained by the birdseed and fresh water that she provided daily.

Helen was quietly but fiercely independent and was appreciative of the fact that in her later years she was blessed with good neighbors who helped her remain independent, as well as having church members who were willing to help her, if she let them.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Gay Davis of Kilgore; her fur children (which will all be taken care of); her beloved neighbors, especially George Demarino and Alaina and Jeff Mercer and Rocky; nephew, Kevin Paul Stephenson; niece, Sunni Lee Wall of Athens, Alabama; her much loved nieces-in-law and their husbands, Mary Ann McDonald and husband Jerry of Orange, TX and Martha Goldsmith and husband Charlie of Victoria, TX.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Velma and Charlie Stephenson; brother, Arlon Stephenson; niece, Helen Pierce, and her husband.
