Gregory Laird Cashen

July 1, 1953 — June 8, 2020

Greg was born on July 1, 1953, in Austin, Texas, to Evelyn and Herbert Cashen of Kilgore. Greg had a real zeal for life and knew a lot about a lot of things. He founded, owned, and operated Cashen Jewelers in Kilgore in the late 70’s and early ‘80’s. Later he was involved in a variety of ventures that included the Oil & Gas Industry, antiseptic chemical development, and real estate developments.

Greg attended Grade School and High School in Kilgore and had many lifelong friends that will miss him greatly. He moved on to college and earned his degree. At one time, he went to Los Angeles, CA and studied acting and movie making. He had plans and a script to produce a drama about the New London School explosion.

Greg had a love for cars. Fast cars. He straightened out many of the curves in the roads that run around Lake Cherokee. He had an Edsel that was his pride and joy and a Model A Ford that was used in the making of the movie Bonnie and Clyde. Greg was also a botanist. He maintained greenhouses and had many beautiful plants and flowers and loved nurturing them. Close to them, he kept Ezekiel, his African Gray Parrot that he had for over 30 years.

Greg had his struggles in life like we all do, but he was a fighter. Quit, was not in his vocabulary. The worst of which was a throat cancer that appeared about 6 years ago. He fought it long and hard in the best way he knew how.

There will be no services for Greg Cashen per Greg’s request by his directive.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home
