Glenda Lea Butts, 79, of Kilgore, completed her earthly journey on Thursday, January 20, 2022, in Kilgore. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Peatown Christian Church, with Rev. Bill Blanks officiating. Interment will follow in the Peatown Cemetery.

Glenda was born on September 10, 1942, in Gladewater, Tx, to the late Marvin and Doris Smith. She was a member of the Kilgore High School Class of 1960. Glenda attended Kilgore College and was on the 21st Line of the Kilgore College Rangerettes. She worked as a secretary for various businesses during her career. Among the places she worked were Bean Ford & Schlier, Kilgore College, Kilgore Chamber of Commerce, and Kilgore First National Bank. She helped to start up Pak-Sher, and was one of the first employees at LTV, and J.W. Operating. Glenda’s Christian faith was strong and without question. She and her husband were very active in several local churches including, First Christian Church of Kilgore, Peatown Christian Church, and Danville Methodist Church. Glenda never met a stranger; she was very social and enjoyed being a member of the Kilgore Women’s Club. She loved the outdoors and was known for having a green thumb. She enjoyed bird watching, fishing, sunsets, and watching the moon and planets from her glass porch. The Lord and her family were the source of her strength. She loved spending time, especially with her grandkids, making many loving and happy memories.

We know Glenda is rejoicing at being reunited with her parents and loved ones that have gone before her.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, James Butts of Kilgore; children, Shannon Butts and his wife Dena of Kilgore, Sherra Butts Poulter and her husband Herby of Kilgore; grandchildren, Hope Poulter, Jayme Butts Cayce and her husband Rowdy, Jordan Butts and fiancé Luke Jordan and Dylan Butts. Also, left to carry on her legacy are numerous cousins, friends, and other loving family members.
