Ernest "Ernie" Henderson Horton, Jr.

Mr. Ernest “Ernie” Henderson Horton, Jr. age 75, of Elizabethton, TN passed away peacefully to be with his Lord on Monday, April 24, 2023 at his residence. He was born on November 12th, 1947 in New York City to the late Ernest Henderson Horton, Sr. and Jane Hamlin Horton. A graveside service will be held in the Danville Cemetery, Kilgore, TX on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 2:00 pm. 

Ernie was employed in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates along with various locations overseas most of his adult life. His last years of employment was for the city of Grand Prairie, TX as an Environmentalist. Ernie was also a 32nd degree mason. After retiring from Texas, Ernie and Janie moved to Elizabethton five years ago to begin their new adventure that they now call home.

Ernie was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had a compassionate and kind heart and was loved by all who knew him. He was a Christian and member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ. Ernie loved his family, friends and his Christian family more than anything.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Bergmann.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 27 years, Janie Rouse Horton, of the home; daughter, Michelle Horton and grandchildren, Ethan Horton Holland and Elijah Horton, of Devon, England; daughter, Pamela Horton and granddaughter, Meira Horton, of Cornwall, England; sister, Susan Pierrel, of Conroe, TX; brother, Peter Horton, of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Linda Rouse Ault, of Elizabethton; nieces, Lauren Bergmann and Leia Ault Ford; nephews, Thomas Pierrel and Nicholas Pierrel.

Graveside services for Ernest “Ernie” Henderson Horton, Jr. will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Danville Cemetery with Brother Dale Hendricks officiating under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
