Douglas E."Doug" Farrar

April 29, 1942 — September 22, 2020

Memorial services for Mr. Douglas E. Farrar, 78, of Longview will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with Brother Brad Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. before services. Mr. Farrar passed away at his home in Longview on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Doug was born on the 29th of April, 1942 to Kelvin Sr. and Verna Farrar in a little house outside of Gladewater in rural Gregg county. As a young man, He joined the United States Armed Forces (Army ARNG and USAF) and served his Country honorably from March of 1960 to Dec 1962. Upon discharge from the USAF he completed numerous training and certification programs that permitted him to pursue multiple positions in the field of land surveying. He spent the next 20 years as Party Chief and Inspector for the City of Longview, Huddleston Surveying, and finally as Road Superintendant for Precinct 4 of Gregg County. In the latter part of his working life, he performed security services for several organizations to include the Social Security Administration in Tyler. Doug was truly blessed to spend most of his professional life in the outdoors where he truly loved to be.

Doug was a man of integrity who valued hard work and humility. He could be as stubborn as a fence post in July, but would jump to do anything he could to help those who had need. He loved family, friends and time spent together cooking and eating great food, telling Texas sized tales, and trying to get away with good-natured pranks (at other’s expense). He was most at home in the outdoors and spent many an hour in the woods and on the water marveling at his Lord’s ever-changing and awe inspiring canvas. He had a way with animals and pets and seemed to know exactly what to say to them in a way that would make anyone take notice. He had an immense reverence for his Maker and became much more vocal of his faith in his later years. Loved by all of us that knew him, Doug will be sorely missed ‘till we are all reunited again in our Eternal’s presence.

Survivors include his children, Clint Farrar and wife Amanda of Murfreesboro, TN, Amy Martin and husband Brad of Harleton, TX, and Bryan Farrar and wife Stephanie of Longview, sisters; Fern Wells of Hattiesburg, MS, Reba Byrd of Purvis, MS, Paula Berry and husband H.O. of Jena, LA, and Wanda Gipson of Hattiesburg, MS; former wife, Jane Farrar of Longview; five grandchildren, Dustin, Sadie, Marion, Walker, Dylan, and Mercy; great grandchildren, Cameron, Cason, and Justice; several nieces and nephews. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Kelvin and Verna Farrar and his brother, Dewayne Farrar.
