Charles Lee Edney

October 26, 1938 — April 19, 2019

Charles Lee Edney, 80, passed away Friday, April 19, 2019 in Kilgore surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 2 pm Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Highland Park Baptist Church in Kilgore with Rev. Riley Pippen officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Interment will take place at Danville Cemetery in Kilgore.

Charles was born October 26, 1938 in Caldwell, Texas to Weaver Lee Edney and Barbara Oletha Rogers Edney. He graduated from Kilgore High School in 1956 and was still very close with many of his classmates. On February 28, 1959, he married the love of his life, Wanda Joyce Pickett. Charles was a God loving man. God and family were his main priorities. He and Wanda were members of Highland Park Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed participating in church activities. Always good for a laugh, Charles was known as the jokester to all who knew him. Charles worked for over 35 years in the motor freight industry and at Kilgore Tire before finally retiring in 2010. He also served in the Kilgore Police Reserves from 1977-1983. “Pawpaw” as he was known by his grandchildren, loved his grandkids beyond measure; they were his world. He also had many other “children” and “grandchildren” through his many years of coaching softball. Many valuable life lessons were learned from Pawpaw and his kind and funny spirit will always be remembered.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Wanda; daughters, Cinda Maxwell (Paul Kincaid) and Lisa Ross; grandchildren, Shanda Branch (Jason Barnes), Trip Clements (Stormie), Jenna Alarcon and husband, Gerardo, Kasie Barnhart and husband, Bryan, Will Estel and wife, Sydne, and Jacob Estel; great grandchildren, Maggie Branch, Gunnar Barnhart, Brynn Barnhart, Poppy Estel, and Makenzie Faye; sisters, Clara Burton and Deborah Phillips; the family dog, Boomer; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.

Thank you to the loving nurses and therapists from Assist Home Health.
