Fannie Jo King Poteet Guestbook

Mike Warlick

To the family of Mrs Jo Poteet. Just want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have fond memories of your Mom, being my first grade teacher. She was a wonderful teacher and taught me a lot about life. I so enjoyed visiting her while she was in Arabella in her later years. My best memory of her while I was in first grade was her letting us lay our heads on our desk for rest time, and she came to me and whispered in my ear, "you can go get a drink of water now". Sweet lady. She will be missed. John 14:1-4

I remember Mrs. Poteet fondly. She was my first grade teacher. She made such a positive difference in my transition beginning school and was always present throughout my childhood there and at McCary's Chapel. I admired her for so many reasons.
With sympathy and prayer for her family and friends,

Mrs Poteet and my grandmother, Madelyn Starkey were friends. I remember as a child walking to her house and having the best brownies Iíve ever eaten. She would also sit with me at church hold my hand and give me gum to chew. Such fond and wonderful memories of her growing up here in Liberty City. Prays for family and love ones. Rest In Peace!

I started the 1st grade at Kilgore Heights with a teacher just beginning her career and things did not go well for me the first six weeks. My mother had me pulled from her class and Principal James Kennedy put me in with Mrs. Poteet. I became a better student because of her.

Thank You Mrs. Poteet

Mrs.Poteet was my second mom. She was a fantastic neighbor. When I visited morm, I always visited Mrs. Jo as well. She and mother watched out for each other. I have many memories of growing up next door to Poteets. Love and prayers to all the family.

Miss Jo was teaching 1st grade at Sabine when I started school but wasn't my teacher. Instead, as the years went by, she would welcome my sister Krissy and I the week before school started and let us 'help' her in the classroom. She became my friend at church and the year I got my first teaching position, I called her in a panic 3 days after school started to tell her I had been moved from 4th grade down to 1st grade. I didn't want to teach 1st grade but had to keep my job. She told me to come by the house on my way home. She had just retired and when I left that evening she loaded me down with bulletin board materials and loads of advice. I called or stopped by many times during that year and always left with so much of her invaluable knowledge. Miss Jo never taught me during 1st grade, but she taught me how to teach 1st grade. Love you Miss Jo.
