My most sincere wish is that the postings here will be of comfort to the Player family. He taught me to swim as well, 27 years ago, everyone was blessed to have known him.

Dearest Player family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I'm sure there is a huge empty spot in your hearts. Just wanted you to know that we are thinking and praying for ya'll. He was a wonderful man and such a great example for us and our children. We will surely miss him, especially at the voting polls. He was always there and so kind. It is with great sadness to hear of your loss. I thoroughly enjoyed the many years of tennis that I played for him. He not only coached the game of tennis but also taught the value of hard work and sportsmanship for which I am very thankful. My thoughts and prayers are with the Player family during your time of personal loss.

As I walked into the chapel last night I was amazed by the noise! People were telling stories and visiting with old friends, and while saddened by the loss of Mr. Player, they were still joyful. My first thought was, "This is the sound of a man who was truly loved and respected by all!" Everyone there had one, if not many, wonderful memories of Bobby, and they wanted to share them with anyone who would listen. I, too, have many memories of Mr. Player. I can picture him perfectly behind the counter at the "concrete pond", and answering the phone as "tadpole". He taught a good portion of the Hogeye kids how to swim. I can picture him as he leaned on the counter in the Water Supply and discussed his duties as a board member. He was in the Lions Club, and very seldom missed a fundraiser--whether a track meet, turkey smoke, or moving birds at the chicken farm, Bobby was there. He was definately a leader in the community, and doing service to those community members went along with it. His wonderful example can be seen in his sons, who have continued in their Daddy's footsteps of service to the community. What a wonderful legacy!! Bobby will be missed greatly by all, but the spirit of Bobby will reside in the hearts of the members of the Sabine schools and the Liberty City community forever. He was one the the greatest men I have known!
