I just heard from my dad about Matt's passing. I'll speak for all of the Showses by saying that we are sad to hear of this news. The one thing about Matt that I will never forget about is his hands. Even in fifth grade when we'd high five or shake hands before homeroom, he had these old, gnarly knuckled hands. Playing baseball for coach Lindahl, his grip on the ball was pretty distinctive, the same is true for holding the football at Haggard. Those hands always stood for wisdom in action in my mind because I connected them with the way Matt lived. It seems that many other people saw that in him later in life, so I'm happy to share what stuck with me. My God bless all strands of Matt's family through this. Friday, March 30, 2007

Ramona, Lisa and family. I sent a message earlier, but guess it did not go through. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Am so sorry for your loss. Ramona, it brings back memories of the early 80's when Lisa, Camber, Todd, Terri and Angie were all in school and of course a year or so before when you and I were.
God Bless all of you!

David and I were so sad to hear about Matt. I have such fond memories of meeting Matt at Haggard and becoming such good friends watching him continue to grow into a kind, compassionate, caring man as we ventured on to Plano. He was my first kiss and a great friend to many, someone everyone wanted to know. His smile was contagious and he has blessed the lives of so many people. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. - Christine
You were a wonderful teammate and an inspirational leader for the Wildcats. Despite being less than ideal in size, you more than made up for it with heart, tenacity, and fearlessness - exemplified by your ability to shine both at Plano, as well as at Austin College. I will never forget a late-hit penalty you committed while we were at Plano. As an offensive player from the other team was going out of bounds, you came flying in from out of nowhere, and launched him 5 yards out of bounds. It was one of the most egregious late-hits I've ever seen in person. The effect your hit had on the morale of your fellow teammates was so inspirational, it more than made up for the penalty yardage, and this play was truly emblematic of how I remember you. Aside from being a great football player, you were a kind, hardworking man, someone who was easily liked, and a man your parents should be extremely proud of raising. May the peace of the Lord be with you. - David Friday, March 30, 2007

I feel honored to have known Matt. I admired his positive attitude and hard work ethic on and off the field. He was a sincerely kind person who you felt like you could always talk to. To the Bragg and Reed families, am very sorry for your loss and will continue to keep you in my prayers. Matt will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. To one of the greatest baseball players I have ever known. You were called the franchise player because you could play every position and play it extremely well. What great memories you left for us to cherish in the years to come. Thursday, March 29, 2007

First, I just want to express how much Matt meant to me as a friend. He was like a brother to me. Ever since we were kids Matt and I played all the sports together. He had the desire to win however he could find away. There is nothing that he couldn't do in this world because he always found a way to do it. To Lisa, David, Andy, Cody, Zach, and Chris--I just want to let ya'll know that he loved ya'll more than anything in this world. I wish that I had a heart like Matt did. He would put his family before anyone else. Not only was he a great son and brother but he always was a great great friend. Matt will always have a special place in my heart. My family's thougths and prayers will always be with your family. Love, Trevor Thursday, March 29, 2007

Matt was the only person that I have ever met that had perfect timing, no matter what he did in life. Whether it be an uplifting pat on the back, a joke to break the tension, a play in a big game, or a simple conversation, Matt had the ability to change things for the better simply by his presence. This character trait existed from the time we were in elementary school, and remained present until the end. He will be forever missed, and never forgotten. Thursday, March 29, 2007
